Brexit: a referendum that has normalised xenophobia and hatred

I recently wrote on how Brexit was a complete waste of time and democracy, However this stupid referendum has a very dark and ugly side of consequences.

Since the referendum back in June, the number of attacks and hate crimes against EU citizens and migrants has increased. Leaving the minorities of this country worried and in fear. Brexit has allowed for these xenophobic views to be normalised and acceptable.

The main propaganda for the Leave campaign was to take back our borders and end free movement of people. In a sense close the UK to all none UK citizens. This ridiculous statement was fuelled further by the UKIP leader Nigel Farage who launched an anti-migrant poster.

This stupid act along with the false fact of “We send the EU £350 million a week. Let’s fund the NHS instead” made the whole Leave campaign an all out  attack on the EU citizens and migrants.

And look where we’re at now, three months removed and what has happened? The number of xenophobic attacks has spiked. In fact, the level of xenophobia has reached unbelievable heights.

After the referendum, a Polish community centre was attacked and an innocent Polish man was killed by a group of youths. And it’s only getting worse, these attacks are going to become common. That’s not what British Values teach us.

I wish this referendum never happened and I wish the word Brexit was never created. Brexit to me is like the N word and the F word.
