This Year was by far one of the most unpredictable years with so much happening. Every single race was nail biting and many councils have changed hands and newly appointed mayors take up the post. Let’s Tak a look at the Winners and Losers from those elections.

Winner: The Conservative Party

The Tories had an amazing night on election night, Winning the governorship of Twenty Eight Councils and overall an extra 563 seats across all councils and winning three mayoral contests out of the six up for grabs.

The Torie’s victories came from Deeply Labour Areas, The Tees Valley and The West Midlands Mayoral Contest. But it wasn’t without loss at all. In the closest race in England, the tories failed to gain a majority in Northumberland.

But it wasn’t without loss at all. In the closest race in England, the tories failed to gain a majority in Northumberland. Losing out After three recounts and drawing lots.

Winner: The Green Party

The Green’s came out with heads held high in the results, gaining more seats than ever before at twenty-one. For a Grassroots party, this is the best result ever and hopefully, the success at the local level will reflect at the national level.

Looser: Labour

This round of Local Elections was an absolute disaster for Labour, overall losing 382 seats and the control of 7 councils. Not to mention the loss of the West Midlands and Tees Valley Mayoral Contest. This has to be the worst Labour has performed in its history.

But It’s Not all Doom and gloom, as the Tories Didn’t Wipe Labour completely.

Looser: UKIP

UKIP Performed the worst of all parties, losing every single seat gained in the 2013 round of elections. This Sees UKIP Without Any MPs or Councillors. A complete decimation of which no one ever has seen before. For Such a Powerful party has come a hard downfall.

This is just at the local level, The Parties now are shifting focus to campaigning for the upcoming general election. With all that said we could be looking at the most unpredictable election ever.
